Jerry the Giraffe
2024

Pastels
9x13”

  • As my first soft pastel experience, I decided to paint a series of animals in fashionable clothing. Combining my two favorite subjects, animals and fashion, breaks norms. ‘Jerry the Giraffe’ was the first in my series, featuring a fashionable giraffe exuding summertime charm. Sporting bright orange sunglasses, pink flower headpieces, and a pastel blue floral-patterned blazer over a peach shirt, the giraffe stands confidently against a vibrant yellow backdrop. The combination of bold colors, whimsical attire, and a cool, composed expression creates a playful yet stylish character full of personality.

Magic of the Asiatic Cheetah
2025

Pastels
10x13”

  • I wanted to paint the Asiatic cheetah which is a critically endangered subspecies of cheetah found only in Iran. I wanted to spread awarness of this animal and the tragedy that has happened to its population. Asiatic cheetahs are smaller and more slender than its African relatives, it has a distinctive pale coat with black spots and a pronounced tear stripe running from its eyes to its mouth. Once widespread across the Middle East and South Asia, habitat loss, poaching, and declining prey populations have pushed it to the brink of extinction. Fewer than 50 individuals remain in the wild, making conservation efforts crucial for its survival. Let us hope that in the future and in our lifetime these cheetahs won’t become extinct but bounce back and thrive.

Flamboyant Flamingo
2025

Pastels
10x13”

  • “Flamboyant Flamingo” is a piece that highlights aspects of the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties. Although this color of pink is rare in suits, I wanted to break the norm and create a piece that uses pink and yellow. Playing with the color and composition was an enriching experience.

Katty the Cat
2024

Pastels
9x13”

  • Inspired by the Victorian Era, I incorporated fanciful dresses and personified the cat by dressing her in lavish clothing. I used my two favorite complementary colors, blue and orange, to decorate the dress and hat. Using hard pastels, I slowly add colors with pastel pencils and layer them with chalk. I paid attention to the lighting and values to emphasize the royalty of the cat. As a cat lover owning 11 cats on our farm, I wanted to depict the personality of the in-house cats, who always act like royalty compared to the rest. In this piece, I explored the idea that humans and animals are not that different. Cats can represent status by walking, eating food, and interacting with other cats in a certain way. My cat, Felfel, who is spoilt, always acts like she is above the rest of the outdoor cats, and I wanted to symbolize this dynamic by depicting a rich royal cat in a fancy dress staring toward the camera.

The detailed beadwork, feathers, and patterned fabrics in shades of turquoise, red, and white convey cultural richness and reverence. Set against a backdrop of golden plains and distant mountains, the bison’s strong gaze and dignified posture evoke a deep connection to nature, tradition, and strength.

Bamboo Break

  • Is it a break with bamboo, or a break of bamboo? This traditionally dressed panda sits at the center of both ideas, resting, reflecting, and snapping bamboo with calm power—a moment of peace, a symbol of strength.

Porch Negotiator
2025

Pastels
10x13

  • Raccoons usually have a bad rap. They’re stereotyped as pesky homeless scavengers that rummage through your garbage for food scraps. But recently, a racoon showed up at my farm and behaved like it owned the world. I noticed it waited patiently infront of my porch, standing on its two hind legs staring at me with its beady eyes. I clearly knew what it wanted—more cat food. This artwork is a representation of my feeling towards this sophisticated character, anthropomorphizing it with fashionable geometric clothing paired with an orange, dark cyan, and yellow color palette.
